Preparing for your Session

A few tips to get you started...

What should I wear?

I have a style guide I will send you after booking that gives more specific information, but the paragraph below provides a small summary. In general the more dressed up you are the better you will look and feel in your photos. Avoiding flip flops, shorts and graphic t-shirts is a good place to start. Clothing that is elaborately patterned or striped do not usually photograph well. Some patterns can distort or accentuate curves/ lines that may not appear in person. Solids, Florals, and unlined prints are usually good. When picking colors it’s often flattering to choose neutral and pastel tones when possible. This allows easier coordination with your partner or group and it looks great! Lastly coordinated/complementary clothing for groups and couples is preferred over matching outfits.

What time can I expect my session to start?

Your session will start roughly 1-2 hours prior to sunset or within sunrise. Why? The light is the most flattering and best for photos in these few hours at the end of the day. No harsh shadows. YAY! This means our “good light” is limited so being ready to start on location at our agreed start time is key.

How do I select a location?

This can be anywhere you choose or I can suggest various locations. In general though we are looking for open space with light colored walkways and/or buildings. The DC monuments are perfect for this but not required.

What if I'm not comfortable in front of the camera?

The first few minutes may be awkward! This is inevitable. However with a little time and practice you’ll warm up to being in front of the camera!

If you’ve modeled before or NEVER modeled before, then we are going to work welll together during your shoot. I will be walking you through various moving poses that will result in natural, candid looking images I believe you’ll all love. The ultimate goal is that you have fun and that you feel as awesome as you look!

How will I receive my pictures/gallery?

You will receive 5-10 sneak peaks from your session within 48 hours of your session. This is usually sent via text or email. Full gallery will be delivered within 3 weeks of your session. The gallery is delivered as a link. By clicking the link you will get instant access to all of your images with which you can download, share and print. I do not place watermarks on any of my photos. The photos are 100% yours and I don't need my name written on them. 🙂

How do I pay?

Session cost details are covered in the investment page. If you have questions about pricing please reach out for the cost breakdown. 50% is due at the time we have both confirmed your session's date and time. This is non-refundable. The remaining 50% is due one week before your scheduled session.
